Seahorse Associates Training & Development Consultants

The Managing Director, Donna Simmonds, has a Master's Degree in Education and has worked for seven years as an Ofsted Inspector for Further Education and Skills.

She has gained substantial experience over 30 years working in further and higher education and training, through which she has cultivated strong professional relationships across the health and social care sector in Cornwall.

Within her previous role at a local outstanding college, Donna successfully managed a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Health and Social Care for five years and played an instrumental role in winning both a national and a local training award for working in partnership with care and childcare organisations.

With specialisms in equality, inclusion and safeguarding, combined with an ethical, person-centred values-base, Donna has found a natural partner in charitable company, disAbility Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, through which 5 Degrees West was established.

disAbility Cornwall & Isles of Scilly

A charitable company, with a twenty year history of delivering services and support for people living with a long term health condition or a disability, their carers and families.

All our work is informed by our RISE model, with a mission to:

Represent: We raise awareness of the lived experience of people to help overcome discriminatory attitudes and practices through mainstream and social media, through focus groups and through partnership working

Include: Through our membership, services, events, initiatives, consultations and our values-based working culture, we facilitate a positive, inclusive community of interest

Support: We deliver professional, accessible information and advice to ensure people achieve and maintain economic and social well-being

Empower: Our rights-based ethos, peer support and the provision of self-help information resources, tools and guides, build confidence, capability and resilience.

In the last financial year, our frontline services provided direct support to 2,345 people, totalling 5,835 actions, and we reached a further 14,334 people via online resources, our websites and social media. We are one of only two organisations in Cornwall to hold the Advice Quality Standard, which evidences the quality, professionalism and accessibility of our front-line services, and we have held the Investor in People Gold standard since 2012.

We have welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with Seahorse Associates in order to deliver training services and person-centred support, with a clear focus on creating inclusive and accessible communities. Working together, our training will equip tomorrow's workforce with the skills and confidence to meet the needs of all citizens in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.
